NORMAN EBENSTEIN
Former President and Chairman Board
Capital Commercial Properties, Inc.

Former CEO

Mr. Norman ‘ Norm’ Ebenstein

Norman Ebenstein was born in New York City on October 23, 1928. He was the child of Samuel and Jeannette Ebenstein and spent much of his early life in Worcester, Massachusetts. He has Jewish heritage, and still feels a strong connection to that today. Education is something that Norman strongly believes in, and he was extremely proud of the academic achievements of his children and his grandchildren.

Ebenstein formed Capital Commercial Properties and was the president of that company for more than 50 years. Over time he built up a portfolio of shopping malls and centers, as well as multi-family residences. The revitalization of the Eden Center was one of one of his proudest projects. The Eden Center was a shopping district in Falls Church, Virginia. Refreshing this center helped it to become a huge social and cultural focal point for the Vietnamese-American community in the area. The work he did has created a legacy that will last for generations. This center is just one of the stunning projects that he has worked on. He has contributed to many national non-profits and was the President for the local chapter of B’nai B’rith. He also set up the Norman Ebenstein Foundation, which supports many philanthropic activities.

Norman is a graduate of Phillips Exeter, and he has a degree in economics from Brown University. He pitched for the university’s varsity baseball team and earned a reputation for having a dangerous fastball. It was while Norm Ebenstein was at Brown that he met Shirley Gorlick, who became his wife of 65 years.

Norman earned a law degree at Boston University, and he enjoyed a long and successful legal career. Norm Ebenstein was a passionate tennis player, and he placed 19th in the New England 45+ age group rankings. He continued playing tennis until he was in his 80s.

Norman Ebenstein passed away peacefully at his home in Boca Raton, Florida, on December 20, 2016. He will be remembered for being a loving and devoted family man with a brilliant intellect, and a fun personality. Norm Ebenstein is survived by his wife, Shirley, as well as his son, Douglas Ebenstein and his daughter Jaime Ruth Ebenstein. He also had two grandchildren; Lisa Ebenstein and Lori Ebenstein.
